Altruism means to give the money or any other things for those who in need and prefer the others on himself
They reported that imam Hassan and imam Hussein ( grandsons of prophet Mohammed ) became ill , the prophet and the other people visited them , the people told imam Ali ( their father) to vow to God , imam Ali said if they recovered I will fast for three days to thank God , his wife Fatima & their maid Fidhda will fast too
Then they began their fasting (fasting means to abstain from food and drink and other things from dawn till dusk
In the first day and when they were going to eat the poor knocked on their door asking for food, they gave their food to him
In the second day and when they were going to eat an orphan knocked on their door asking for food, they gave their food to him
In the third day and when they were going to eat a prisoner knocked on their door asking for food, they gave their food to him
They stood hungry for three days and drink water only
Therefor God mentioned them in the Quran (And they feed, for love of him, the poor, the orphan, and the prisoner, Saying, we feed you for Allah's pleasure only. We desire no reward nor thanks from you) Surah Al- Daher / 9-10
Prophet Mohammed said (the one who prefers the others on himself, God will reward him in the paradise
Imam Ali ransomed prophet Mohammed when the disbelievers decided to kill the prophet in his bed; he slept in his bed instead of him. God mentioned Imam Ali in the Quran(And of men there is he who would sell himself to seek the pleasure of Allah ; and Allah is compassionate to his servants . ) Surah Al-Baqara / 208
